All About Newborns

Photographing newborns is probably my most favorite part of my job! They are so pure, innocent and precious and quite frankly, they look so darn cute with those hats on shoved into a basket! Ha! That being said, it’s also the most time consuming and requires the utmost patience and precision. Newborn sessions are very time sensitive and to get those sleepy, squishy, tender moments involves a lot of planning on my part and yours! Newborns photograph BEST between 5-10 days after birth with 14 days being the most time I like to wait. After that, it’s very hard to get the shots that people are so in love with these days. Please contact me MONTHS before your due date so we can secure a slot for your little one and have enough time to plan accordingly. My newborn sessions come first and I can usually work other session times around them should the baby come early or (lets hope not for mama’s sake) a little late.
Newborn sessions usually take about 2-3 hours depending on how our star is doing during the shoot. The baby runs the show and that’s why patience is a virtue when photographing a newborn! Typically I will ask that the baby be fed prior to my arrival as to ensure a full belly and a sleepy baby. The session time allows for scene changing, baby changing, cuddling, and feedings again if needed.
Currently, I am only offering outdoor newborn sessions. This allows plenty of room for baby, Mom, Dad and as many siblings and grandparents as you can bring! I’ve found that the outside fresh air, sunshine and ambient noise allows the baby to sleep more peacefully and deeply and, of course, allows nature to offer us some amazing scenery!
I will supply many of the hats, headbands, crates, baskets etc. for the shoot as I am a prop-a-holic, however you are more than welcome to bring any special item that you wish! I love to personalize my shoots so the more I know about you the better!!
